President’s Message – April 2023

Spring is in full swing!  And this year is flying by, with one quarter of the year now past.  April is the month of resurgence and renewed growth.  We celebrate important religious holidays of Easter and Passover along with the 53rd anniversary celebration of Earth Day which occurs on April 22.  And of course our most dreaded day of the year, (April 18 this year), is the day the Tax Man cometh.

The CFMC is also in full resurgence as the heart of spring arrives.  Thirteen members just completed a spectacular 5-day road trip hosted by Catherine Fort.  Covering almost 1000 miles, we visited beautiful portions of South Carolina and Georgia, including historic venues and lodgings.  We traveled beautiful rural Miata roads, visited wonderful local restaurants, including dinner at a drive-in with the Masters Miata Club in North Augusta, Georgia.  The highlight of the trip was our ride on the SAM Shortline Railroad in Cordele, Georgia, culminating in warm hospitality and a wonderful dinner aboard the private Pullman car the Dearing.  Further descriptions of the trip’s details will follow in the Ragtop Tales.  Our CFMC Facebook page will include photo documentation of the activities of this event.   Thank you Catherine for hosting an outstanding trip!

We have a number of great events planned for upcoming months including a local road trip in April, a visit to the Myrtle Beach area in May and a Belmont “Steaks” event in June.  We have openings for other events during 2023 so please contact our Activities Chairs, John and Peggy Harris at mx5miata16@gmail.com with your ideas.

We are still hosting our second Saturday of the month gatherings at Bitty and Beaus.  Due to renovations in their coffee shop, we are in search of a venue that can accommodate a group of the CFMC’s size.  We will continue to gather at Bitty and Beaus until we can find another location.  Information will be shared with all members as we modify our second-Saturday gatherings.

We are enjoying wonderful top down weather.  Now is a great time to enjoy the beautiful weather and relative serenity of our area before the onslaught of summertime visitors and heat.  So get those Miatas out and enjoy the attributes of our beautiful part of America.  I hope to see you all soon.  Zoom-Zoom!
